Save the River Project

The “Save The Tioga River” (STTR) project started as a coalition effort to solicit donations to be invested exclusively for developing, operating, and maintaining AMD treatment systems in the Upper Tioga River Watershed. To date, we have $135.0 K in an account dedicated to this initiative.

In 2018, the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (BAMR) contacted the TCCCC to explore the possibility of applying to various Federal funding programs, including funds available for Operating & Maintaining (O&M) AMD treatment systems.  This effort has been moving forward since 2018 culminating in the proposed Tioga River Acid Mine Drainage Treatment Plant Project.

Due to the size and scope of the Tioga River Acid Mine Drainage Treatment Plant Project, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) was contracted by BAMR to manage the project for them.  Updates to the project are provided under the WATERSHED menu, Upper Tioga River sub-menu.

The funds that have accumulated in the STTR account will ultimately be donated to the Tioga River Acid Mine Drainage Treatment Plant Project.  We would like to thank everyone that has donated to this effort.  We will continue to keep you informed about the project via our website.
